Isaiah 1:18 in the Bible says, "
Come now let us reason together saith the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they shall be white as wool"
I have always wanted a pure white pet named Scarlet as an illustration of this verse.
You see, Romans 3:23 tells us that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God".
"We all do wrong things that offend God. As a result, we can not have a relationship with Him, and we can not spend eternity with Him in heaven.
Romans 6:23 says that "the wages of sin is death... "Our sin earns us eternal death in a real place called hell.
Isaiah 64:6 tells us that "We are all an unclean thing and our righteousness are as filthy rags.."
So, you see, because we are sinners, we are unclean in God's sight, and even the good we do is like filthy rags to Him. Our sins are dirty, they are as scarlet, but they can be white as snow....
Romans 6:33 which says that the wages of sin is death, goes on to say, "BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." You see, God loved us so much that He became a man and took the punishment that we earned for our sins (see John 1.)
I Corinthians 15:2-3 says, "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture, and that he was buried and rose again the third day, according to the Scripture.." Jesus Christ lived nearly 2000 years ago and suffered a cruel death on the cross to take our punishment. But, because He is God, He conquered death and rose again that through Him, we too can live. We can have new life.
So, how can our scarlet sins be washed white as snow? Acts 16:31 says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. "
John 1:12 says, "But as many as received Him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."
God has offered us a free gift. We need only to accept it. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourself. It is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast."
We can not earn favor with God. Our righteousness are as filthy rags, remember? We need only accept the free gift of eternal life He offers by first of all admitting that we are a sinners who can not save ourselves. We must then believe that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again. Then, accept His free gift. Ask him to come into your life and wash your sins as white as snow. He promises He will. And He promises to make you a new person.
I Corinthians 5:17-18 says that "if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. And all things are of God...."
Have you made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior? If not would you do so today? Then you can say "Though my sins were as Scarlet, they are now white as snow."
